The Board of School Trustees approved a proposal from Superintendent John Trout to restructure HCCSC’s Central Office administrators during Monday night’s board meeting. The new leadership structure features a Superintendent, Director of Elementary Education and Director of Secondary Education, replacing the previous structure of a Superintendent, Business Manager and Director of Curriculum.
The change was made to provide schools and building administrators with better support to ensure the highest quality of education possible for all students within the district.
“Over the past few months, I have been carefully observing the day-to-day operations of each one of our elementary and secondary schools within our district,” Trout said. “I am impressed with the dedication and devotion that our administrators, teachers and staff members displayed in meeting the needs of our students each and every day. It became readily apparent to me that I needed to reorganize the leadership team at the HCCSC Central Office to help provide additional leadership and support in the coordination of curricular and instructional programming while assisting our administrators and staff with the day-to-day operations of our buildings and support services.”
Trout remains in the Superintendent position, while Jay Peters moves from the Director of Curriculum position to the Director of Elementary Education position. Joining Trout and Peters to complete the Central Office leadership team is Chuck Brimbury, approved during the meeting to serve as the Director of Secondary Education.
Though the third position of the Central Office leadership team is being switched from a business-oriented position to a curricular-oriented position, Trout has strengthened the HCCSC business department and established new processes and systems to ensure the department continues to operate effectively.
“The past six months, I have been leading the business department of the district and we have implemented several new processes and systems to ensure that we are utilizing our financial resources in the most effective and efficient manner, and not changing the leadership and approaches in these areas is vital to our district’s long-term success,” Trout said. “From my position as Superintendent, I want to continue to work closely with our business department as we continue to implement these important budget and fiscal strategies in our district, while working closely with Mr. Peters and Mr. Brimbury in helping to assist our buildings and departments each and every day of educating our students.”
Brimbury returns to the HCCSC family after spending over 20 years working within Peru Community Schools. Brimbury served as a social studies teacher at Huntington North High School from 1994 to 1997 before moving to Peru High School to teach social studies for a total of 11 years split between two stints, with the most recent coming from 2019 to 2022.
Between his stints teaching social studies at Peru High School, Brimbury held four different administrative positions within Peru Community Schools. In 2005, Brimbury left the classroom to become Peru’s assistant principal before becoming the school’s principal in 2007. In 2010, Brimbury took over as the superintendent of Peru Community Schools, a position he held until 2014 when he opted to step down to become Peru High School’s athletic director. Brimbury guided the Tigers’ athletic department until returning to the classroom in 2019.
Brimbury’s administrative leadership earned him several awards and recognitions, highlighted by being named as District Superintendent of the Year in 2014.
“Mr. Brimbury brings a proven, successful track record to HCCSC,” Trout said. “I have personally known Mr. Brimbury as a superintendent and respected his student-centered approach to his work, while having a genuine care for his staff and entire school community. As the Director of Secondary Education with HCCSC, I look forward to working alongside him on a daily basis!”
Brimbury is a graduate of Indiana State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies education. Brimbury also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Ball State University and an education specialist degree and doctorate from Indiana State.
Brimbury and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Nolan, Nathan and Madison, and a daughter-in-law, Adreana.
