HCCSC logoHCCSC has a set of core values that represents the beliefs of the corporation as a whole. Previously, those who have exhibited behavior that follows these values have been verbally recognized during Board of School Trustees meetings, but Superintendent John Trout thought that this was not enough to recognize such achievements.

Trout decided to put forth a process in which administrators from each school may nominate students or staff to be recognized by the school board for demonstrating core values. After their nomination, they may be recognized more officially by being present at a school board meeting.

The Board of School Trustees recognized a pair of groups during the core values discussion section of Monday night's board meeting, with the Unified Robotics team and the Huntington North Marching Vikes receiving recognition.

The Unified Robotics team, which consists of students from both Andrews Elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School, were honored for their achievements of competing at Taylor University in November.

The team did an outstanding job of displaying teamwork, perseverance and flexibility. Their efforts earned them the distinguishment of being a Unified Champion School. The team was recognized for displaying the core value of High Expectations, High Achievement and Accountability. Team members present were Lucian Cline, Ryan Lesh, Phoebe Vickrey, Owen Vincent, Kendall Yarger and coach Cari Neal.

The Huntington North Marching Vikes were recognized for their highly successful 2022 fall season. The Marching Vikes advanced all the way to the semi-state round of the postseason for their show named “Shattered.” The Marching Vikes also earned a number of high ratings throughout the season, including gold ratings in both postseason rounds prior to semi-state.

The Marching Vikes were recognized for displaying the core value of High Expectations, High Achievement and Accountability. The Marching Vikes are directed by Michael Petek and Alex Walters. Invited to represent the Marching Vikes at the board meeting were the group’s seniors and drum majors: Cadence Reed, Anikah Eckert, Ian Crider, Liam David, Matthew Grube, Takara Hethcote, Rebeccah Kerlin, Matthew Pharoah, Aiden Richardson, Blaise Rupley, Catie Taylor, and Elycia Tome.
