During the most recent school board meeting on Jan. 23, the HNHS girls bowling team was invited to be recognized for displaying HCCSC‘s core value of High Expectations, High Achievement and Accountability. The members were grouped by Executive Secretary Cindy Gray and thanked and congratulated by Superintendent John Trout. Trout then gave a brief summary of their achievements.
After being verbally recognized, Director of Elementary Education Jay Peters and School Board Trustee Ryan Wall gave the individuals an official certificate in honor of their core value and took a picture with the group to remember the moment.
Recognized during the board meeting were Kianna Jennings, Kennedie McDaniel, Elianna Mendez, Jaycie Smith, Raygan Spice, head coach Bob Gottshalk and assistant coach Jennifer Arivett. Three members, Kiersten Arivett, Mia Brockhaus and Delaney Veach, were also recognized but were unfortunately not present at the meeting. These three individuals will be sent a congratulatory letter and their certificate in the mail.
This season, the group performed exceptionally, winning the Hoosier Conference championship and the Hoosier Conference Sectional championship. At the sectional match, junior Jaycie Smith finished as the individual runner-up advancing her individual run to regionals.
On Jan. 21, the group competed at the regional match in Ft. Wayne. With an exciting energy in the room and a light atmosphere, they came in second place. Smith again participated in the individual competition and came in third place. Both the team as a whole and Smith as an individual will move on to semi-state on Jan. 28 at Pro Bowl West in Ft. Wayne.
The team has advanced quickly throughout this season. With many returning members and only one senior on the team, their team falls on the younger side, which leads to anticipation for the following seasons and of course at semi-state.
