Crestview Middle School will be the site of an Indiana Department of Health mobile COVID-19 clinic from noon to 8 p.m. daily from Monday, Dec. 27, through Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Five HCCSC students have been selected as the winners of the corporation’s annual Christmas card cover design contest, with two winners coming from Riverview Middle School and one winner coming from each of Crestview Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Salamonie Elementary School.

On Dec. 10, HCCSC concluded its annual Salvation Army canned food drive.

Horace Mann Elementary School dedicated its new playground on Wednesday morning with a ceremony to celebrate the playground’s completion at the beginning of the school year.

Huntington North High School senior Megan Stephan made her college decision official on Monday, signing with Rockford University to continue her academic, softball and golf careers as a Regent.

Huntington North High School senior Grace Dill signed her National Letter of Intent with Huntington University on Tuesday afternoon, committing to continue her academic and golf careers as a Forester.

Huntington North High School senior Addy Wiley made her college choice official on Monday night, signing her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Wiley will be continuing her academic and athletic careers, running both cross country and track for the Buffaloes.

HCCSC accepted a generous donation of winter coats from MidWest America Federal Credit Union on Monday morning at Lincoln Elementary School. Lincoln Principal Jennifer Yarger, Lincoln Assistant Principal Josh Troyer and four Lincoln students were on hand to accept the coats from MidWest America Huntington Branch Manager Brittany Brown.

Huntington North High School seniors Addy Wiley and Harrison Niswander competed on the state’s biggest stage for high school cross country, running in the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. Wiley recorded her third consecutive top-10 finish at the State Finals by placing seventh in the girls race, while Niswander placed 120th overall in his State Finals debut in the boys race.

HCCSC and Horace Mann Elementary School accepted a generous donation of school supplies from Partners 1st Federal Credit Union on Oct. 7.

The HCCSC Board of School Trustees approved a $25,000 donation from Novae Corp. to the Huntington North baseball program during Monday night’s board meeting. The funds from the donation will be put toward the renovations taking place at Huntington North’s baseball field.

HCCSC and the Huntington County Community Learning Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the Learning Center’s expansion project on Tuesday morning.

The scoreboard in Huntington North High School’s new multi-purpose stadium will feature Bippus State Bank advertising, as a sponsorship deal between HCCSC and Bippus State Bank was approved at Monday night’s Board of School Trustees meeting.

Ever since 2004, Huntington North High School foreign language students have enjoyed the opportunity to study abroad and hone their foreign language skills through Indiana University’s Honors Program in Foreign Languages. Former Huntington North Spanish teacher Dede Rippetoe-Reed recognizes the value of the opportunity and has started a scholarship to ensure Huntington North students can take advantage of the IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages moving forward.

The Huntington North High School girls track and field program enjoyed a wealth of success at Saturday’s IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, headlined by a pair of state titles for junior Addison Wiley, who claimed the crowns in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.

Six members of the Huntington North girls track and field team will be representing the Lady Vikes at Saturday’s 2021 IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals in Indianapolis, as freshmen Johanna Bragg, Ella Colclesser and Gracie Fields, juniors Regan Slagel and Addy Wiley and senior Hanna Whitney will all toe the line in various events on the state’s largest stage.

Ground was officially broken for the new Huntington North High School multi-purpose outdoor facility on Thursday night. The facility will host the Vikings’ football, boys and girls soccer and boys and girls track and field teams and will also be used by Huntington North’s band, JROTC and physical education classes.

HCCSC announced its annual Primary and Secondary Teachers of the Year during the district awards ceremony Thursday morning. Andrews Elementary School Art Teacher Annette Little was named as the Primary Teacher of the Year, while Huntington North High School Radio and Television Teacher Nick Altman earned the Secondary Teacher of the Year designation.

A pair of Huntington County Community School Corporation administrators were recognized at Monday night’s Board of School Trustees meeting, as Superintendent Chad Daugherty received the Candice Dodson EdTech Trailblazer Award from the Indiana CTO Council, while Career and Technical Education Director Tiffanney Drummond was honored with a House Resolution by the Indiana General Assembly.

Nick Altman claimed the Teacher of the Year recognition, while Huntington North seniors Noah Zahn and Barrett Barscz earned the designations of Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2021.

Huntington North student Addison Wiley continued her excellence on the track over the weekend, competing in the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation (NSAF)’s Meet of Champions in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, against other high school runners from across the country.

Eight teachers at Riverview Middle School were awarded 2020 Classroom Minigrant grants for their classrooms by CF Industries on Wednesday. The grants received totaled $1,238.

Families struggling to pay for their students’ curricular material fees received a belated Christmas present on Monday night at the HCCSC Board of School Trustees meeting, as Huntington First Church of the Nazarene (HNAZ) raised a total of $10,000 to donate to HCCSC to help families with the fees.

The 2020–21 season came to a close on Friday night for the Huntington North girls basketball team, as the Lady Vikes were dispatched in the Columbia City Sectional Semifinals by South Side after a 53–45 defeat. The outcome marks the fourth consecutive year the Archers have eliminated Huntington North from the postseason.

A total of 40 HCCSC teachers in 23 different classrooms across all nine schools within the district have been awarded grants by the Huntington County Community Foundation’s Classroom Education Grant program.

The Huntington County Community Learning Center received a big boost in its current expansion project after being awarded a grant from the 80/20 Foundation Trust for the development of the advanced manufacturing lab. The grant was approved on Dec. 3, 2020, and was awarded on Jan. 1.

Andrews Elementary School was on the receiving end of a generous donation on Friday morning, as Partners 1st Federal Credit Union in Huntington assembled a box of winter hats and gloves to gift to the school to distribute to students in need.
