The Varsity Singers of Huntington North High School recently hosted their annual Pomp and Plenty show under the direction of Mr. Aaron Childress. Varsity Singers is comprised of 30 singer/dancers in grades 9-12. They are accompanied by 22 members of Varsity Brass, directed by Matt Walter and accompanied by Greig Hutchens, and 5 stage crew members.
The theme for this year’s show was “Back in Time” and featured favorite tunes from past Pomp and Plenty shows from the 1990s and early 2000s. “The Crestview Middle School Band was the opening act for the Saturday matinee show…they were fantastic! The HNHS Jazz Band performed as the opening act for the evening show, and as usual they were outstanding under the direction of Matt Walter and Michael Petek,” commented Mr. Childress.
This is Mr. Childress’ first year as the Director of Choirs at HNHS. “I am blown away by the support from the community and the dedication/talent of all the students in the choral program. I knew coming in this year that the choral tradition was strong at Huntington North, and I have not been disappointed in the least."
“Mr. Hutchens, Mr. Walter, and I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the Huntington community and HNHS alumni who came out to support our kids at Pomp and Plenty 2018. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful support from our administration and from the entire community here in Huntington. Keep checking back in with us for more exciting concerts and events in the near future."
