Riverview Middle School language arts teacher Denise King was honored by HCCSC Superintendent Chad Daugherty and Riverview Principal James Bragg on Thursday, as Daugherty presented King with a commemorative clock to recognize King’s time teaching within the corporation.
King, who currently teaches seventh and eighth graders at Riverview, will be retiring from teaching at the end of the semester after spending over 20 years teaching within the corporation.
“Denise King has made an impact on the students and families of Huntington County for several years,” said Riverview Principal James Bragg. “Denise is a master teacher, specifically in writing. She has been trained, as well as trained the Riverview teachers on the ‘six traits of writing.’ One of the most telling things about Denise as a teacher is, when she began teaching both seventh and eighth grade language arts, most of the seventh-grade students requested to have her again in eighth grade. To a student, they all said, ‘Mrs. King’s classes are so fun!’”
King spent all but one school year at Riverview teaching language arts, with the lone exception coming during the 2007–08 school year as a seventh grade social studies teacher at Crestview Middle School. Throughout her time at Riverview, King taught at all three grade levels.
Upon retiring, King plans to be more involved in the lives of her grandchildren and family members. She has proudly claimed that her schedule is very busy for the next year, and will see what the future holds after that. King believes she still has a lot to give in life and is looking forward to doing so as she begins the next chapter of her life.
