The Huntington North girls basketball team took to the court one final time in 2020 on Wednesday, Dec. 23. However, the evening had a special feel to it, as Huntington North 1996 graduate Lisa (Winter) Finn’s Cathedral Irish were on the other end of the floor. As (Winter) Finn grew accustomed to in her childhood, the Lady Vikes would pick up the win, besting Cathedral 53–43.

The 2020–21 season tipped off for the Huntington North boys basketball team on Tuesday night, as the Vikes traveled to face off against eighth-ranked Homestead. Despite a respectable showing from the visitors, the host Spartans came away with a 64–50 triumph. The loss started the Vikings’ season record at 0–1.

HCCSC elementary schools have partnered with JJ Java, a local coffee shop in Huntington, to produce custom-designed coffee sleeves to spread holiday cheer throughout the community. Each elementary school will have a designated day for their coffee sleeves during Feature Week at JJ Java, which is held during the first week of December.

Smiling, positive and inspirational are three words to describe Wyatt Schmaltz. Who knew that so much could be packaged in one small body? On July 24, 2020, the Horace Mann Elementary family experienced a great loss when our classmate, student and friend, Wyatt, lost his six-year battle with cancer. However, memories of Wyatt live within those who knew him. The influence he had in the lives of others was far-reaching. You did not have to personally know Wyatt to be affected by his story. Many followed his battle with cancer and walked alongside of him and his family in their hearts and prayers.

Lincoln Elementary fifth graders produce tribute song for Lynda Laatsch

Lincoln Elementary School teacher Lynda Laatsch passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020. Laatsch taught at HCCSC for 27 years in multiple buildings. In her honor, fifth grade students at Lincoln recently collaborated with accomplished singer and songwriter Steve Seskin to produce the song “More Than a Teacher to Me.”
